True diving fanatics know that an accurate and trustworthy dive watch is one of the most important tools they will take with them underwater. From timing a dive to calculating oxygen consumption, a diver will depend on their watch to get them back to the surface safely. With so much at stake, it is no wonder divers are willing to pay top dollar for a high-performance dive watch.

Two of the best on the market today are the Breitling Superocean Heritage Chronograph and the Omega Seamaster. Let’s take a look at what the two watches have to offer.

First off, the Breitling Superocean. The Superocean picks up on a Breitling diver legacy that started in 1957 and blends the past and present into a sleek modern watch. The Superocean has a water resistance of 660 feet. And is equipped with scratch-resistant sapphire glass, so you won’t have to worry about scratching or ruining this hardy watch during your next dive. Divers will be pleased that the self-winding watch has a 42-hour power reserve. And although it may wear a little large on the wrist at 46mm, a dedicated diver will appreciate the large easy to read dial.

Next, a true classic, the Omega Seamaster 300. Much like the Breitling, divers have trusted the Seamaster 300 series since 1957 and haven’t stopped. Coming in a variety of styles, the Seamaster 300 has not lost step with what divers want in style and function. Also, like the Breitling, the Seamaster 300 is made with the hardy scratch-resistant sapphire glass. You will also get an extra 340 feet of diving with the Seamaster’s 1000 foot water resistance. Coming in at 41mm, the Seamaster 300 is drastically smaller than the Breitling, which may be seen as a positive or negative depending on the diver wearing it.

The Seamaster 300 has also been the watch of choice for Daniel Craig’s James Bond. Chances are if the watch can keep up with the crashes and chases of James Bond, it should accommodate the average diver’s needs nicely.

So is the Breitling Superocean Heritage Chronograph a better choice than the Omega Seamaster 300?

The two watches are similar in price. They both reach the depths that an avid diver would need them to. And they both have a scratch-resistant sapphire face that is essential for a watch that will be used for a sporting activity like diving. Unlike the Omega though, the Breitling is a chronograph, which will give the diver more uses from their watch. At the end of the day, the better watch is a matter of opinion. But, if having the added uses of a chronograph is important to you, then the Breitling Superocean might be your best choice.
