Year 5’s Trip to the Wakefield coal mining museum

On Tuesday the 6th of November, both year 5 classes went all the way to the coal mining museum. They went to the museum to link to to their local history study. First, they split up into groups where there were two groups for each class.

The children had to go down the 468 foot mine shaft before finding them selves surrounded by coal where they were able to get some on their face and rub it all over. There was one part where they got to take 1 or 2 pieces of coal with them back home. Year 5 also had their lunch there at 12:20 so they could have more time exploring around afterwards. In the afternoon, they had to pretend that they were working down in the dark ,damp and soggy coal mines.

Once they had finished, they had to go and wash their hands and then they went back up 468 feet in a shack that took them 2 minutes and 28 seconds before heading back to school. They loved the museum and they would all want to go back there again.
