On the Friday 23rd, Year 4 have produced an excellent assembly all about WWI . Whilst learning about the topic, they were reading a book called Song for Will, about a person called Will who died on the front line in France during the war.
In their assembly, approximately half their class were wearing a prop such as the WWI style hats. They started out with a warm welcome and got straight in to the best parts. In part of their work they wrote a letter, diary and information to Fred. They wrote as Alfie, who is one of the main characters, by empathising with him and how he deals being without Fred and Will and the moment they disappeared over the hills. They also had a go at writing setting descriptions, and they were given a picture so they knew what to describe. They also made pieces of art using water colours. Here they used red, yellow and pinks to create a wash of a sunset. After a few days, they cut out soldiers to stick onto their wash and added poppies to decorate.
Near the end, they sang a song called Its a long way to Tipperary/ Pack p your troubles in your old kit bag, the song was from the film” Its a wonderful war”.At the end, everyone gave them a double round of applause because of how good their class assembly was.
