For World Book Day 5S and 2G took part in a reading morning. The children brought along their favourite book, which they then discussed with their partner. During the morning the children listened to each other read, asked questions to check their partner’s understanding and suggested ways that they could make their reading even better. The children worked really hard, reading with expression and accuracy. Happy World Book Day!

Today, Year 5 went to Leeds City Musuem as part of their history topic on the Ancient Greeks. During the day the children took part in various group activities including: investigating Ancient Greek artefacts, making their own Anicent Greek masks and understanding what the different artefacts told us about the way the Ancient Greeks lived. All the children worked really hard. Well done Year 5!

Mr Cavalier-Lumley, our Chair of Governors, spoke at our assembly this morning to launch our annual Easter Egg Appeal in partnership with JCI (Junior Chamber International).
Our children have been asked to donate an Easter egg (or two) for children less fortunate than themselves.
Thousands of families and young children all around us suffer poverty and are vulnerable. That’s why JCI Bradford organises an annual Easter Egg Appeal with help and support from some organisations and businesses in the Bradford District.
From today until Friday 20th March they’re hoping to collect over 1000 Easter Eggs to be passed on to deserving children who would otherwise go without an Easter Egg.
Any contributions can be sent to school and Mr Cavalier-Lumley will return at the end of March to collect them.
Jake, one of our Bloggers, celebrated his birthday today. He very generously baked a HUGE chocolate cake and brought it for all of the Blakehill Bloggers to share. It was absolutely delicious – thanks Jake! And we all hope you have a very happy birthday.
On the 12th February was the Big Sing 2015. This is where 10 children from each school in Bradford come to Blakehill Primary to sing different songs. The schools that came are: Blakehill, Thorpe, Fagley, St Lukes, Greengates , Poplars farm, Thackley, Cavendish, Grove house, Parkland, Holybrook, Our lady at St Brendan’s & Swain House.
They sung lots of different songs including ‘Juba’ and ‘Ain’t gonna let no body turn around’. They had been practising for many weeks, however this was the first time they had all sung together. It was a fantastic event and a great opportunity for local schools to work together.
Next Thursday it will be World Book Day and everyone will be bringing in books, as well as swapping and sharing them.
We will be doing special activities, such as an extreme reading competition and a book swap. We will also be sharing our favourite books with people from other classes and 30 children from years 5 and 6 are going to Immanuel for WBD activities. At the end of the day, everyone will receive a £1 voucher for a book.
We hope everyone has a great time, and that they enjoy sharing the love of reading!

Today 2S did an amazing assembly all about Spring time and growing. They all spoke loudly and clearly. They told us about how they had set up a cress seed experiment. In the experiment, they put one tray of seeds with water on the windowsill, one without water on the windowsill, one in the fridge with water and one in the dark cupboard with water. I wonder how this experiment will turn out? At the end of their assembly they sang a song about a tiny seed growing in Spring. They sang beautifully. They did some really good acting to the story of Billy’s Sunflower. As well as the story, they showed us some painted pictures of sunflowers that they had created of the famous painting by the artist Vincent van Gogh. Their paintings were amazing. 2S are also doing a competition in their class to see whose sunflower grows the tallest.
As you may already know, we have now got banners to show how amazing we did in our Ofsted inspection! They can be found around the school grounds, attached to the fence, come and have a look and let us know what you think!
