Does it conduct?

Year 4 have been testing objects made of different materials to find out if they conduct electricity.

Simon noticed something interesting about one paper clip, which was made of metal and one, which had a plastic coating – what do you think he found out?

Hannah tested a pair of scissors and found that some parts did conduct electricity but others did not – can you work out which?

Hothfield Pupils Rise to the Track Challenge

Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils represented Hothfield on Wednesday at the second of the KCAC Primary Schools Track Challenge, which took place at the fabulous running track at University Academy, Keighley.

The children all put in 100% effort and many achieved personal bests in races ranging in distance from 50m to 1,500 m. The weather was bright but the bitter northerly wind blowing down the home strait and meant competitors had to dig deep. Well done to all our runners.

Football tournaments at Marley

This week Hothfield have been competing in some football tournaments at Marley pitches in Keighley.

On Monday night the year 3 and 4 boys team performed exceptionally, winning 2 and drawing 3 of their games. Lewis scored 3 goals, Joe got 1. Sam performed heroically in goal. Callum, Matthew and Dominic worked tirelessly for the team. Ben was very calm and assured in defence. Despite not conceding a goal in any of the games we finished 2nd in the group so didnt qualify for the semi finals.

On Tuesday it was the year 5 and 6 boys’ turn. Again we played well, winning 1, drawing 1 and narrowly losing 3. Greg scored 3 goals. Jack made some magnificent saves. Connor, Toby, Andrew, Harry C and Harry S all performed confidently and showed plenty of footballing skill and ability.

Last night it was the year 5 and 6 girls’ team of Abigail, Katie, Bethan, Maire, Niamh and Khadija. We drew 1 game and lost 4. Our performances got better with each gamr as the girls gained more confidence. They reflected on their performances and learnt from mistakes to allow themselves to be play better.

Well done Hothfield’s footballers.

I love Cornwall, why because I love the small golden sandy beaches and watching the sea horses in the waves. (Mrs Spencer)
