Believe and Achieve

Acting Headteacher Blog Welcome

on September 9, 2016

Hello and welcome to the new school year.

It has been so lovely to see all the staff, children, parents and carers returning to school after the holidays and sharing their stories with each other. Each new year brings with it new expectations, hopes and fears and you can feel a real buzz around the school as we all get up and running with the rhythms of school life again.

For the school there has been substantial change in that I am now Acting Headteacher and Mrs Jones is now Acting Deputy Headteacher as part of the BDAT Academy Trust.  Although this is a big change it also brings with it the continuity from the previous years we have worked here, albeit in different roles. As I was walking around school yesterday one of the children whispered to their teacher “Is he the boss?” which made me smile at how different people have different perspectives and expectations of me as a Headteacher.

Together we are all working to the benefit of all the children within the school. Some classes have already visited the nature area and been investigating mini-beasts,  leaves and trees and every class I have visited has been alive with questions, smiles and thoughtful reflections. This afternoon I spent a fascinating time with the Year 6 children up at St Mary’s Church looking at the history of the World Wars linked to Oxenhope and to ring, explore and learn about the bells and the bell tower. This is part of the Heritage Open Days at the church which continue over the course of this weekend, well worth making time for a visit. The picture is taken from the seldom seen spiral staircase allowing access to the bell tower.

This week has seen lots of meetings, timetable conversations, introductions, settling in, getting to know each other again and setting expectations for the coming year. Next week timetables will settle down in to a more ‘normal’ routine and we will continue our journey together. School really is a special place to be and over the coming weeks I hope to be able to share some of the flavour of what happens during the school week with you.

I will be brief this week as you have already had a couple of letters home this week with various details, which are linked on the website. If you have any comments or reflections please feel free to comment below and I will do my best to provide a reply. If you have any questions or thoughts about the school of a more personal or private nature then the school can be contacted through the office@oxenhope.bradford.sch.uk email address and your query will be forwarded to the appropriate person for a response.

Believe and Achieve, our school motto, is something that we are embracing as a school community – we believe in every child (and person) and that we can all achieve amazing things if we believe in ourselves and put the effort in to practice.

Thank you for the wonderful welcome at the beginning of the year, I am looking forward to what the future holds.
