Acting Headteacher – Half Way

As we approach the half way point in the year we are very much on with recruitment and the comings and goings of life in our small but busy Primary School. We say thank you and farewell to Miss Vaughan who is leaving us at February half term to work for the local authority. She will be missed and we are currently recruiting for someone to replace her.

The Headteacher recruitment has also started with the process coming to a conclusion in the middle of March. Any questions you have around this can be directed to the governors who will be more than happy to speak to you about the process and what it involves.

We are also going to be saying goodbye to Miss Round at the end of the year, she has secured an Assistant Head post at a school in Bradford starting in September and while we will miss her it is also a fantastic opportunity to further her career and we wish her well. The recruitment process for a Key Stage 2 teacher has begun and will conclude after the Headteacher has been appointed. This is all part of the cycle and life in a small primary school and the continuity and direction of the school remains focussed on securing the best outcomes for the children.

After half term we will have our parent consultation evenings, Monday and Tuesday 13th and 14th March, and this will be a good chance to meet the teachers to discuss any issues that need addressing and celebrate the successes so far during the year. We will also have a suggestion box out for you to give us some feedback on what you would like to see in your child’s end of year report. It’s a question we have asked before but received limited responses so if you feel strongly about what you would like to be part of your child’s end of year school report from Oxenhope then please let us know.

We sent out a questionnaire about communication methods and also posted it to Oxenhope Online, many thanks to them for hosting. The results are overwhelmingly in favour of using an app as a way of communicating with also plenty of comments about using emails alongside an option for paper if needed. I have started to investigate the options available to us in terms of providing what we need and getting best value.

There were 69 responses and the questions were:

Are you a parent at the school? Yes 90% No 10%

Would you use an app to receive information about school such as letters, calendar events, closure, updates etc?  Yes 94%  No 6%

How would you prefer to receive news from school?

App only 70%   App + Paper  26%    Paper only 3%

More information will follow on this as we progress towards taking up a service and rest assured options will be available for everyone.

Thank you for your continued support for school – it really makes a difference and all our recent visitors have commented on how it feels like such a lovely place to be and that is down to our shared efforts on behalf of the children.

The children have been blogging more regularly now and it is great to see so much going on and be able to share it with you. In school we have been showing candidates round for the part time Year 1 teaching post, the deadline for applications is on Monday at 12 noon.

It is also the Valentine Disco after school today and I know a lot of the children have been excited about this all week. Thank you to the Friends of Oxenhope who organise and co-odinate events like this during the year. Not only does their hard work provide wonderful experiences and events such as these but it also raises vital funds for school. This enables us to purchase items (eg iPads, books), develop the school (eg The Pods, The Library) and visit further afield (eg subsidised travel per class) which would otherwise be out of our reach.

Please support our Friends events as much as possible, they are great fun and the money goes directly on the resources and experiences the children have in school to enhance them. Thank you again, the committe do a great job at organising and co-ordinating events but also thanks to everyone who helps to support and make these events such a success.
