Year 6 Elterwater Residential

on September 20, 2017

Today we arrived at Windermere to clearing skies rather than the forecast downpours – always a bonus! A quick stop for lunch and then it was straight into the trees for the Tree Top Trek. Each year we find that the children really challenge themselves and face their fears. Children who are confident stretch themselves by finding challenge on the ropes and children who are at first tentative really enjoy proving themselves. Everyone walks a little taller and this year was no exception – everyone can be very proud of their achievements.

We then traveled to the Hostel and had a hearty meal – finished off with ice cream, fruit salad or sticky toffee pudding. After tea we visited the Mountain Rescue Team based in Ambleside. We got a real hands on look at the vans and rescue equipment and got to see the control room up close. The Mountain Rescue Team does so much to help people in difficulty, and in such a professional manner, it is easy to overlook the fact they are volunteers on call. They really are an inspiring group of people and the children and staff came away buzzing about the work they do.

The end of day one is always a mixture of anticipation, tiredness, excitement and trepidation. They have already done so much, there is so much  more to come and they are away from home wanting their adventure to continue into the night! Rest assured they all do get a good night’s sleep which they will need with a full day walking, gill scrambling and bat watching ahead of them tomorrow.

Until then, good night.

Arrival at Brockhole Visitor Centre ready for our Tree Top Trek adventure.

It was really good fun on the huge zip line. It was the best it is 250 meters long and 15 meters high. It was really fun when you get to the bottom and your class mates pull you up the hill.
