Reading!

Year 4 Science

Year 4 have enjoyed learning about electricity this half term and particularly building their own circuits.

After mastering how to make simple series and parallel circuits, they had to investigate what kind of materials were conductors or insulators.

Well done everybody! We hope you also enjoy our next topic which is called Animals including Humans and concentrates on the digestive system, food groups and teeth.

Making Matzoh in Year 4

Today Year 4 made some Matzoh bread in RE as they were learning about the Jewish festival called Passover or Pesach. This festival commemorates the Exodus (Moses leading the Jewish people out of Egypt).
The ingredients needed to make this flat, unleavened bread are olive oil, flour, water and salt.
The children enjoyed making and eating this bread with Mrs Rashid.
Well done to everyone involved.

Year 4’s Mummy

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about the mummification process used in Ancient Egypt so we have mummified a banana!

The children had fun pretending the banana was an actual body. First, they inserted a metal rod into the nose, trying to liquify the brain in order to remove it. Then, they performed an incision on the left hand side of the banana to remove the organs. After that, they rubbed the inside and outside of the banana with salt. Next, they mummified it, wrapping it up with bandages. Finally, they placed the mummified banana into a sarcophagus. Every Friday, we have been checking changes to observe the different stages of decay.

Here are some of the photos of this experiment.

Super Sounds in Year 4

Today, Year 4 were very noisy!! But it was all for a good reason: we were learning about sound. The children had to find out how different instruments make different sounds and how the pitch can change.

They explored the sounds made by various instruments in pairs and then had to present their findings to the class which was not always easy, but they got there in the end. So well done, Year 4. Keep up the good work!

Year 4’s Hindu Shrine

Last Friday, in RE,  Year 4 learnt that Hindus can worship in a temple called a Mandir or at home and that they do so in front of a shrine. A shrine  can be anywhere in your home and usually has a murti (statue of a Hindu god or goddess), a bell, some kum kum powder, some water, some fruit  and some flowers.

The children enjoyed designing their own shrine in our classroom and making flowers for it.

Well done, Year 4!
