Healthy Eating!

This half term, year five have been learning about what makes a healthy diet. Ms Pearson has been coming into class to make different concoctions with a variety of fruits.

Parachutes

Forces is the topic for year five in science this half term. This afternoon, the children were learning about air resistance. To support their learning, they made some parachutes to test which materials would work best.

Dance!

Last Friday, years one and five teamed up for a special dance lesson! After an energetic warm up, the children worked in groups to produce some of their own dances. Here are some photos from a busy afternoon:

Year 5 Maths

This morning, year five worked in pairs to try and work out when Tom had grown so tall during our Picture Maths lesson!

Manchester Airport

Last Friday, year five visited Manchester Airport to support their topic of flight. Everyone had a great day and learnt lots of interesting facts.

Gale and Honor were our hosts, they showed us around and made sure we had a fantastic day. Thanks to Mr Daynes, Mick and Edwina for accompanying us on our trip! Here are some photos from our day:

Year Five – Autumn 2

In year five this half term will be learning about flight! As part of our topic, we will visit Manchester Airport on Friday to look around a busy terminal, watch the planes taking off and landing, and to step on board some planes that are no longer in service.

This term we are learning:

  • Maths – Statistics, Multiplication & Division and Area & Perimeter
  • English – Losing-Finding Stories and Recount Texts
  • Topic – Flight
  • Science – Forces
  • PE   – Dance
  • ICT – Computer Skills

Vikings!

Last half term year five were visited by a viking! We learnt lots from him and had a great day. Here are some photos from his visit:

Tong Football League 2018

Well done to the school football team who made a fantastic start to the U11 tournament last night.

We played 5 games, here are the results:

  • St.John’s (A) 1 – St.Paul’s
  • St.Anthony’s 0 – St.Paul’s 2
  • Bradford Academy (A) 1 – St.Paul’s 0
  • St.John’s (B) 0 – St.Paul’s
  • Bradford Academy (B) 0 – St.Paul’s 4

The team really grew in confidence as the games progressed and they worked really well as a team. A special well done to Phoebe for making some great saves, our goalscorers Cameron (6) and Jacob (2) and Joe’s great communication in defence. Well done everyone!

Welcome Back Year Five

Welcome back year five! I hope you all had a brilliant summer and made the most of the weather. You had an excellent first week back, setting the standard for the rest of the year – keep it up!

This year we are lucky to have extra adult support in our class; Mr Daynes will be with us every day; Mrs Safiyanik will be working with us on Monday afternoons, Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons; Mick and Edwina will be with us on Monday mornings, Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings; and Mrs Smith will be working with us on Thursday mornings. Mrs Shepherd will also be listening to readers on Monday afternoons.

This half term our topic is The Vikings. We will also be learning about a variety of things in different subjects. Later in the half term we will also have a special visit from a Viking!

This term we are learning:

  • Maths – Place Value, Addition & Subtraction and 3D Shapes
  • English – Acrostic Poetry and Discussion Texts
  • Topic – The Vikings
  • Science – Properties and Changes of Materials
  • PE   – Benchball
  • ICT – Internet Safety

Summer Fair 29.6.2018

Thank you to everyone who came to our summer fair on the 29th June. It was a lovely sunny evening with lots of fun including teachers in the stocks, penalty shoot out and face painting.
