Year 5 Brazil Carnival Day 2017

Yesterday the children in Year 5 took part in a Brazil day and found out all about Brazilian carnivals. They made a flag and a mask and then tried some different fruits in the afternoon. They all made their own tropical punch from orange, pineapple and apple juice.

The sun came out too just like in Brazil ūüôā

Here are some photos of our day.

What did you learn about carnivals Year 5?

Digital Leaders Celebration Event 2017

Today, the Year 5 digital leaders went to the innovation centre, in Bradford, for a celebration event. They shared a presentation about their achievements in school over the year, which can be seen below. They then received a wristband and certificate to say they had successfully completed the training to be a digital leader.

The children also had the opportunity to speak to some visitors about some new technology and games and review them. They received a free mug for this too.

Well done to all the children involved. You have acted as role models to the rest of the school and your confidence has grown immensely. I am very proud of your maturity throughout the training but especially today.

A very proud Miss Charles ūüôā

S.Patrick’s Day Year 5

Today we learnt about St. Patrick’s Day and why people celebrate. We talked about the patron saints of each country in the UK and why British people celebrate.

Here are some facts we learnt.

  • St.Patrick¬†became a Christian priest.¬†He returned to Ireland and converted many Irish people to Christianity
  • People wear green on Saint Patrick‚Äôs Day. ¬†Some people wear costumes or funny hats
  • Some people go to church in t
he morning. In Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day has primarily been a religious festival. There are parades all around the world.

We then made a shamrock sun catcher to put up at the window. The shamrock is a St. Patrick’s Day symbol because St. Patrick used the shamrock to teach the concept of the Holy Trinity. The three leaves represent the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Wishing a very happy St.Patrick’s day to everyone.

Year 5 End of term and Cooking

Today Year 5 had a treat day. They suggested activities they would like to do and they earned the time today, off timetable, to do activities such as computers, colouring, puzzles and crafts.

All the children also took part in some cooking and baking also. They made crustless quiche and jam pastry whirls. They were delicious and the quiches were very healthy too. The children were chefs in the making with brilliant knife skills even with the sharp knife and their mixing was great too.

Gordon Ramsey Juniors!

Who is going to make them at home?

Have a good half term Year 5!

Christmas Fun in Year 5

Here are some videos and photographs of the various Christmas activities in Year 5.

We have tried the latest challenge – the mannequin challenge, had a visit from Santa, had a party and created some Christmas crafts.

Have a lovely Christmas and a very happy new year.

Remembrance Day

This week we have learnt all about Remembrance day and done some awesome Art work in every class.

We also had an assembly and a 2 minute silence to remember all the soldiers and other people involved in World War 1 especially but also World War 2  and wars that are still going on right now.

Here are some examples of our Art work.

Parents Evening November 2016

Thank you to all the parents and guardians who attended parents evening at the start of the week.

In additional, thank you to all those who completed the questionnaire regarding the school blog and all those who picked up a leaflet explaining how to use it.

Here is the leaflet if anyone missed out.

I hope this was helpful and we have lots more views and comments on the wonderful work going on in school.

Thank you again,

Miss Charles
