Last Friday, years one and five teamed up for a special dance lesson! After an energetic warm up, the children worked in groups to produce some of their own dances. Here are some photos from a busy afternoon:

We finished our dance topic in PE by warming up to Gangnam Style and then followed this by dancing to some Christmas songs. Next half term in PE we will be moving onto gymnastics!

Zumba Class Year 5 14.11.2016

In Year 5 we have been learning a different dance each week. Last week we did some Bollywood dancing and this week we have learnt zumba.

At first, we practiced a few from the videos on the board and then the children used these ideas to become the dance teachers. They made up a new Zumba dance and taught the rest of the class for a few minutes each.

The children had a lot of fun and were brilliant Zumba teachers!

In this week’s PE lesson, year 6 have been performing a bit of Zumba! The children learnt some dances, and then took moves from the dances to create their own routines. Some even thought of their own dance moves and taught them to the rest of the class!

Year 6 Last Street Dance Club

Street dance club had some fun at the Year 6’s last street dance session yesterday with Abi.

I am sure I speak on behalf of all the children in Year 6 in thanking Abi for all her hard work and support with dance, in clubs and competitions this year.

Thank you!

Street Dance

On Tuesday 21st June, St Paul’s Street Dance Group (years 4, 5 and 6) competed in a dance competition. Here is how a few of us felt:

Emilie – I felt nervous but excited at the same time. Seeing the other schools made me more determined.

Warren – As I walked in I was scared but after our first rehearsal I felt excited.

Samantha – We had worked so hard in rehearsals; I was keeping my fingers crossed.

Millie – When I found out we won I couldn’t stop smiling.

Taya – I felt so happy I couldn’t stop jumping around. What a way to finish my dance experience in year 6.

We all want to say a big thank you to Abi our dance teacher!

Enjoy the video…

Junior Dance Challenge 2016 – Final Show

As you will have already seen on the blog on Tuesday. 17 children from St Paul’s competed in the Junior Dance Challenge. Here are some more photographs of the children who took part in the Junior Dance Challenge ready for the final performance with full costume and make-up!

They look fantastic!

Junior Dance Challenge 2016

On Saturday, 17 children from St Paul’s went to BBEC to take part in the Junior Dance Challenge with four other schools, Hollingwood Lane, Swain House, High Crags and Reevy Hill.

The children started the day off with a a warm up and watching the adults (myself and Miss Wassell) dance on the stage! Then each school took turns to rehearse on the stage, the children then had lunch and begun to get ready for the show with hair and make-up, finishing with two shows and the results.

St Paul’s were unbelievable and although they didn’t win overall, they won two awards:

  • Best choreograohy
  • Best dramatic performance

A huge well done to all that took part!

Dance Challenge (13)

Thank you to all the staff who helped and to all the parents who attended the show in the evening.

I am sure you were as proud as me!

Here is a video of our rehearsal in the morning.
