Year 2 visit Yorkshire Wildlife Park

As part of our topic on Africa Year 2 went to learn about and visit the wild animals at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. First, we had a lesson with Lucy, who was very knowledgable and informative. Did you know that an ostrich egg is the same as 26 chicken eggs? Or can you find out the difference between “poisonous” and “venomous”? After the lesson, we went to look at the animals. The weather was fine so we had our picnic outside and then on to see some more creatures. What a memorable day!

WORLD BOOK DAY !!!

At St. Pauls’s we celebrated World Book Day by everyone coming to school in their pyjamas or onesies. You also needed your favourite bedtime book and a cuddly toy. The response was brilliant. At the end of the day, which had focussed on reading and reading skills, we had a whole school assembly. Mrs. Smith read us a story and everyone had a part to play, from Reception class up to Year 6. Thank you to everyone for sharing your “love of reading”.

Year 6 Science & Media Museum

On Wednesday 13th February,Year 6 went on a visit to the Science & Media Museum in Bradford. We went on the bus and took part in lots of activities once we were there.

We looked at the TV, gaming and animation exhibitions. In addition, we took part in a ‘Light it up’ session with science experiments about light. Before lunch we watched an Imax film and saw the dissection of a sheep’s eye and learnt the parts. Lastly we explored the Wonderlab and conducted science experiments.

Well done Year 6. You were a credit to the school and learnt lots!

Year 6 Whitby Trip

On Friday, Year 6 went to Whitby as part of our topic work. We looked at the Abbey, walked down (and up) the 199 steps, went in the old town, on the pier and play on the beach. The children also had time to look in the shops and buy gifts and sweets. We had a fantastic day although the weather was miserable and wet. The children were a credit to the school and enjoyed it very much.

What was your favourite part?

Today we had a visitor in our assembly.

Year 6 Science – Light

Year 6 have been learning all about light this week. We have been experimenting with light rays (yellow string) we have learnt about light travelling in straight lines and into our eyes. We found out how our eyes use the light to make images from our brain too and how clever they are.

We then started to understand shadows and what shadows are formed from the light rays. We also studied reflection and refraction.

What facts did you learn from these investigations?

What do you now know about light, shadows and the human eye?

Year 6 African Drumming

On Wednesday 21st March, a man called Paul Butler came into school and taught our class to play the African drums.
We learnt lots of different tunes and rhymes and some people took part in solo performances.
After we learnt how to play, Year 5 came to watch and even learnt a song to sing in the middle,
