Bradford Music and Arts Service

Today we were treated to a fantastic music assembly by The Bradford Music and Arts Service. They played a whole host of songs and different types of music, from Mary had a Little Lamb right through to Beethoven. The aim of the assembly was to inspire us to play musical instruments.

They played and introduced a number of different instruments including: the violin, the trumpet, the trombone, the flute, the clarinet, the saxophone, the keyboard, ukulele and the guitar.

They offer lessons on a number of instruments including those that are listed above.

If you are interested in learning to play an instrument application forms are in the school office. The cost of the lesson is similar to the price of a swimming lesson and if you don’t have an instrument they can be rented from the service.

Playing an instrument not for you? They also offer a Song Start service which involves dance, drama and singing.

The Big Sing 2015

On the 12th February was the Big Sing 2015. This is where 10 children from each school in Bradford come to Blakehill Primary to sing different songs. The schools that came are: Blakehill, Thorpe,  Fagley, St Lukes,  Greengates ,  Poplars farm, Thackley, Cavendish, Grove house, Parkland, Holybrook, Our lady at St Brendan’s & Swain House.

They sung lots of different songs including ‘Juba’ and ‘Ain’t gonna let no body turn around’. They had been practising for  many weeks, however this was the first time they had all sung together. It was a fantastic event and a great opportunity for local schools to work together.

Young Voices 2015 @ Sheffield Motorpoint Arena

On Thursday 22nd January 2015, 35 children went to Young Voices at the Motor Point Arena in Sheffield. They sang a variety of different songs including Lonely Boy, a special medley for Mandela, pop songs and many more! They had a very good time even though they got back at around 10:45 and they were all tired! There were over 30 schools there with over 4,000 people! Even more when the adults came to watch! Before the show there was a 2 hour rehearsal until the big moment! As well as the huge young voices choir there were also special guests such as Lucy Spraggan (A former X factor contestant), Urban Strides (An amazing dance group) and Mike Lowery (A boy band from Liverpool who have won many singing competitions). Thank you to Mrs.Keighley, Mrs.Bedell, Mrs. Cavalier-Lumley and Mrs.Horrocks.
