Blakehill Fun Day

Today all the children in Blakehill got a special treat from their teachers and the PTFA for being good this year.Today, the children were allowed ice-cream and also were allowed to have a go on some bouncy castles! The bouncy castle company arrived before school to set up 3 inflatables for us brought! They was a big inflatable slide, a Scooby-Doo bouncy castle and a disco bouncy castle with a disco light inside(cool)! Some lucky classes got to go on the bouncy castles more than once before it started to rain this afternoon. As well as the bouncy castles, there was also a ice-cream van that came into school and we all got an Ice cream cone with sherbet and sauces or a lolly. It was a great day, thank you to all the staff and PTFA who helped to make it happen!

Alice in Wonderland 1P

On Friday 8th June, 1P recreated the story of Alice in Wonderland for their class assembly. First of all, Alice (Flo) went through a talking door into a place called Wonderland. After, she met all the characters in the crazy world, the first character was The Rabbit that was always late going to places. Alice wondered what a rabbit could possibly be late for and while she was meeting the other  characters she asked where he had gone. In the end, she found out The Rabbit was going to her majesty, The Queen of Hearts. In the story In the story , as Alice journeyed through Wonderland, she came across a number of characters such as:The Mad Hatter,The Queens Guards,Cheshire Cat,Tweedledee and Tweedledum and The Flower Girls. At the end of the play, they put on a video with lots of pictures of the school year on.

ELKLAN Workshop

For the last seven weeks, we have been holding an ELKLAN workshop after school on a Thursday. Run by Mrs Pinder, parents come into school and are taught how to teach their child language and communication skills to help them with their learning. This workshop showed parents the work done by staff in school so that they can carry it on at home. Mrs Pinder, really enjoyed running the workshop and would like to thank all of the grown ups who attended. IMG_5060 IMG_5062 IMG_5068 IMG_5073

4L Whale Assembly

Today 4L did a great class assembly about orca whales in captivity. First they showed us a video of whales in captivity doing tricks and explained what it made them feel like – it looked really cool. Then they found out how bad this was for the whales and wanted to prevent this from happening so they got help by writing letters to people at home and around school. They also wrote some acrostic poems and diary entries about whales to explore what they thought about whales being taken from the wild. They said that, in captivity the whales only live up to twenty years but in the wild they live up to eighty years old. We think this is shocking! Please help us save orcas because they are been caught and killed and we think it should stop! Here is an example of an acrostic poem:

Help baby orcas in captivity

Energetic orcas need space to roam

Lots of orcas are been killed in captivity

Peace is what the orcas need

It was a great assembly by 4L well done!

Year 3 Fairground Rides

After a fantastic session with STEM Lego last week, Year 3 were inspired to make their fairground rides as part of DT Week. They used their knowledge of pneumatic mechanisms to help them make a ride out of Tech Card. A pneumatic mechanism works by moving air from one area to another causes a platform to move. Check out the pictures.

Year 2 Assembly

On Friday 20th May Year 2 did a assembly on Global Warming which began with them singing a song adapted from the Coldplay song When I Ruled the World. The main part of the play was about Polar Bears and how they might die as a result of Global Warming in 100 years time! They acted out a little story about Polar Bears hating Seals and also about the Icebergs they live on melting away. This was a story with attitude which they were really good at showing. They also told us a bit about their trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park and what animals they saw there. Overall it was a good assembly and everyone enjoyed it.
