5C’s Books of the Week..

This week’s SPOTS…

Dear mother and father…

Year 6 are stepping into the shoes of the Shackleton expedition to Antarctica… Wearing warm clothes helps us ‘get in role’ as we write…

The digestive system

4B have been making a life size model of the digestive system today.

Can you work out which part is which?
(The large intestine is a bit mis- shaped).

Year 4 writing their own traditional tales.

Hothfield’s athletes progress to Bradford finals!

Hothfield’s year 5 and 6 sportshall athletics team have progressed to the Bradford finals in February, after finishing second in the Oakbank cluster event.
We performed especially well on the track, winning 8 of our 11 races.

Y5 Water Topic #2 – Water Filters

How can you turn dirty water into clean water? Year 5 can tell you!

Using just plastic bottles, cotton wool, sand and gravel, we managed to make our water much cleaner (even if not quite clean enough to drink!).

Why does it work? What does each layer of the filter do?

Y5 Water Topic #1 – The Fighting Temeraire

Year 5 have been making a splash with our new topic, water, this term. In art, we’ve been studying paintings of the sea by the artist JMW Turner.

We evaluated his famous painting ‘The Fighting Temeraire’ and then made our own 3D versions of it. What do you think? (Note: The first one is by Turner, the rest by Y5!)

This week’s SPOTS….

Year 4 football competition.

Our year 4 girls football team played in a competition at Oakbank this evening. They won 1, drew 1 and lost 1 of their 3 matches, finishing joint 2nd overall.
For some girls it was the first time they had played football matches and they did well. Despite the cold, wet weather they all had smiles on their faces at the end.
Well done Hothfielders!
