This week’s SPOTS…

Year 3 Skype Back in Time to 1924

Howard Carter

On Thursday, Year 3 went back in time to 1924 and ‘Skyped Howard Carter’. He told us how he found the tomb of Tutankhamun and what treasure was inside. The children asked him lots of questions about his adventures and how he found the tomb.  The children found out lots of information and some want to become archaeologists.

Fundraising for Manorlands…

A great effort from this group of Year 5 girls to hold a coffee morning to raise money for the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.

The girls organised and advertised the coffee morning themselves and raised a wonderful £832.  Well done to you all.

Digestive system models.

Year 4 have been making ‘junk models’ of the human digestive system.

What happens to food we eat?

This week’s SPOTS…

Victorian School

The Year 5 children have all travelled back in time this week to experience life in an authentic Victorian schoolroom.
Our trip to the Bradford Industrial Museum gave everyone the chance to use chalk slates, sit in rows on benches, use ink dip pens and recite poetry, songs and times tables.
We were really pleased that the children used their prior learning from their topic work this year to impress the School Master and that they followed the strict rules of the Victorian classroom so wonderfully.
Everyone had a special Victorian name for the day and dressed up brilliantly in Victorian clothing!

Hothfield footballers march on!

It was a hugely successful night for the two Hothfield U11 teams at the Ilkley/Keighley area playoffs tonight.

Both teams played 4 matches – each winning 2 and drawing 2. That meant both teams won their groups and now progress to the Bradford area finals (in February).

The girls earned their victories 1-0 (Chloe H) and 4-0 (Chloe F hat-trick, Chloe H), with brilliant effort from all the team. Well done to Lola (c), Marissa, Scarlet, Grace, Lucie, Gracie, Holly, Chloe F and Chloe H.

The boys won both their key games 1-0 with solid defending and goals from Callum and Lewis. Well done to Sam, Josh E, Michael, Josh L, Harvey, Lewis, Joe, Spencer and Callum.

As a bonus, the players were presented with their medals by Matty Pearson who is a pro with Accrington Stanley (“who are they?”) and is an ex-Oakbank student. He’s the young and athletic looking one at the back of the 3rd photo below (a description which these days unfortunately rules out a couple of the other adults pictured…)

Education City and Times Tables Bee

Education City is a great way for children to learn their Times Tables. they love singing along to the Times Tables songs and completing the activities. They can now access this at home, as we have been given a trial of home access for Education City until January 2016. Children use their normal login details. If they have any problems they should see their class teacher or Mrs Fairburn. If you have an i-pad, you can still access Education City by downloading a free app called Puffin Academy which will allow access to the activities.
