Keighley Schools’ Netball Champions!

Yesterday, our year 5 and 6 netball team won the Keighley Schools’ Netball Finals.

We beat St. Stephens 4-1 in the semi final (Sofia 2, Marissa 1, Emily S 1). In the final we played against OLV and won 4-3 (Alana 1, Sofia 1 and Scarlet 2).

A fantastic achievement for Hothfield’s netball players and it is the culmination of 2 years of dedication and hard work at our training sessions.

Well done Alana M, Marissa L, Scarlet B, Sofia K, Emily S, Emilie W, Ellie J, Kaye F, Emma N, Rachel S and Sahiba B.

Chinese New Year Celebrations in 4 Bears

Although this was a few weeks ago, these pictures will remind 4 Bears of the wonderful afternoon they spent learning about and celebrating the Chinese New Year. We spent the afternoon making Year of the… animals with tangrams. Then Mitchell taught us how to write some phrases in Chinese. Finally, we were lucky enough to sample some delicious Chinese food (prawn toast, spring rolls and prawn crackers).

South Craven Netball Champions!

On Tuesday, Hothfield took part in a netball competition at South Craven school. We had two teams participating in the event.

Hothfield ‘B’ drew 1 and lost 2 of their group matches. Unfortunately they didn’t qualify for the semi finals. The performances improved with each match though and they were unlucky not to win their last pool game.

Hothfield ‘A’ won all three of their pool games. 3-0 v Sutton (Marissa 2 and Alana 1); 3-2 v Cononley (Alana 2, Scarlet 1); and 1-0 v Lothersdale (James 1). They qualified for the semi finals where they beat Steeton 3-2 with a ‘golden point’ (Alana 3). In the final Hothfield faced Kildwick. Marissa scored the winning point in a 1-0 victory.

Well done to Emma N, Holly R, Grace R, Kaye F, Sahiba B, Yusaf H, Adam S, Daniel M, Emily S, Emilie W, Marissa L, Rachel S, Ellie J, Scarlet B, Alana M, Lee F and James G.

welcome Salam from Bangladesh…

On Monday 7th March, year 6 were visited (passive voice) by Abdus Salam (known as Salam) from Bangladesh.  He is working closely with Christian Aid to support poor and vulnerable people in his homeland of north-west Bangladesh which now suffers regularly from terrible floods.

On his three week visit to Britain, Hothfield Junior School was his only school he visited, where he told the year 6 children about his life and work.

In the summer, year 6 will be learning more about Salam and his project and will be supporting the efforts of Christian Aid in their partnership with his charity GUK (Gana Unnayan Kendra).  More details will follow.

Shakespeare Comes To Hothfield

On Thursday Year 6 were treated to a fantastic afternoon’s entertainment with the Young Shakespeare Company.  Kept a secret before the event the children had no idea what delight lay before them when they went into the hall.  The excitement generated by the actors was palpable and all the children enjoyed participating with the action of the play.  For some of them it was only as the play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, ended that they realised that they had in fact been watching Shakespeare.  WIthout exception they children agreed that it had been a brilliant experienceIMG_0377 IMG_0564 IMG_0391 IMG_0416 IMG_0460 IMG_0466
