Year 4: staring into the abyss

This afternoon we welcomed a huge number of parents and carers into school to celebrate the work the Year 4 children have completed as part of their ‘Blue Abyss’ theme.

They were able to enjoy Mr Crossley leading the children in performing some of the sea themed songs the children have learned in music before heading to the classrooms to see the letters, poems, posters, leaflets, bookmarks, games, pictures and computing work the children have produced both in school and at home.

Mr Crossley, Mrs Walker and Mr Peat would like to thank everyone who attended and also the Year 4 Teaching assistants who gave up their time to support the celebration.

The children loved sharing their work with their adults.

Bradford Gaming Festival

Life-size ‘Operation’ – with a twist!

Four keen Silsden computing students enjoyed an afternoon at the Bradford Gaming Festival this week, hosted by Curriculum Innovation.

They had the opportunity to play clever – computerised – versions of Operation, Space Invaders and Pong, as well as to play a bit of music using some clever programming.

Best of all, entries from 8 Silsden students featured in the competitions at the festival – Lucy in Year 6 created a brilliant game that you can play here, whilst 7 other students were finalists in the art competition to design a new video game character.

A massive congratulations to Ruby, who won the competition for her character Catra, and Rudie for being runner-up with Mino the Ice Fox. Both girls received well-deserved prizes in assembly today.

Super Sports Days!

The children at the Hothfield site enjoyed two brilliant sports days this week – with great effort and enthusiasm shown by all participants.

Thank you to all the children who were running the events (Y6 for the Y34 afternoon, Y4 for the Y56 afternoon) and to the many parents who came along to support.

The Aire View site will be having their event next week after a wet weather postponement.

House Cup winners will also be announced next week!
