Coding Club

During the Spring term, around 20 children are enjoying our new weekly after school ‘Coding Club’. So far, we have created…

> Our own rock bands using Scratch
> A turtle race using Python; and
> Numerous projects using BBC Micro:bits – including our own digital versions of Rock, Paper, Scissors. After a hard-fought tournament, one supreme champion emerged!

Mr Humbug Sees the Light!

What an amazing set of performances by our Year 5 children this week, culminating in a spooky evening show tonight of our school-set retelling of Dickens’ classic – A Christmas Carol.

It was a superb effort from all the children and thank you to all the audiences for showing their support and appreciation.

Football Champions!

On Monday evening, our year 3 and 4 girls football team won the Bradford schools’ tournament.

They won all 4 of their group games 7-0, 3-2, 3-1 and 3-0. In the semi- finals they won 2-1. The final was a tense match. Hothfield finally prevailed thanks to a golden goal scored by Lucy.

Year 6 Tag Rugby Tournament

On Thursday, Hothfield took part in a tag rugby competition at South Craven School. We entered 2 teams into the competition and had 18 players participate altogether.

Our B team unfortunately lost their 3 group matches but they played some good tag rugby and visibly grew in confidence with each match they played.

Our A team won 2 and lost 1 of their group games. They finished 2nd in their group and qualified for the semi-finals. We eventually lost the semi-final.

All the players really enjoyed themselves and displayed superb sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Year 5 Tag Rugby Tournament

12 children from Year 5 today represented Hothfield in a tag rugby tournament at Cougar Park, home of the Keighley Cougars. An impressive 14 local schools were taking part and we were drawn in what turned out to be the so-called ‘Group of Death’ alongside Long Lee, Glusburn and Worth Valley.

We dominated our first match against Worth Valley and were unlucky to be pegged back to a 2-2 draw (Rio scored the 2 tries). The second match vs. Glusburn was a more one-sided affair which we won by an impressive 4 tries to 1 (Alfie 3, Mitchell 1). That left a winner-takes-all match against high-flying Long Lee, who had won their opening 2 matches. It was a fast-paced, high quality contest with tries galore that was richly enjoyed by our onlooking support from the stands. Unfortunately we were on the wrong side of the final 5-4 scoreline (tries from Sulaiman, Mitchell, Archie and Alfie).

All members of the squad contributed superbly to a valiant effort and it says a lot that Long Lee went on to win the whole tournament. It has been great to see so many of the Y5 children enthused by the tag-rugby sessions this term and a pleasure to share the trip to Cougar Park with them today.

Squad: Alfie, Archie, Edward BC, Elouise, Holly, James I, Katelyn, Mitchell, Natalia, Rio, Sam B, Sulaiman
