U11 Kwik Cricket

Two Silsden cricket teams from Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a fantastic day in the sun today – competing with other local schools for the right to make the Bradford School Games.

Silsden A in the field

Silsden A comprehensively won their opening two group games against Steeton B and Merlin Top thanks in part to some great bowling and some fierce hitting (especially from captain Jack!). A third, more narrow, win followed against Worth Valley – Harry S stealing the show with a wicket and a pair of fours.

So they were left with a winner-takes-all final group game against a tough Oakworth team. The match was very tight with Harry MS and Harry S both pulling off spectacular catches before a solid batting display. Unfortunately, we fell just short of our target and finished a highly credible 2nd in our group. Only the winners are able to progress to the Bradford School Games so we fell agonisingly short.

Silsden B were in group 2 and faced some tough opposition (Steeton A, Oxenhope and Cullingworth). 3 extremely close matches ended with 2 narrow defeats and a rare tie! The final match was against eventual tournament winners Victoria who batted powerfully to send us out of the competition. It was great to include several Year 5 pupils in the B team – giving great experience for the tournament next year. Callum, with his runs, and Ben, with his bowling and fielding, performed particularly well.

Well done to all the children in both teams who performed superbly and with great sportsmanship. Although we fell just short of the finals with Team A, the standard of their cricket was extremely high throughout.

The children competing were as follows, alongside some very patchy statistics (trying to watch two games at once is hard!)…

Team A

  • Jack (c) – 5 fours, 7 sixes, 1 run out
  • Lennon – 2 fours, 2 sixes, 1 run out
  • Harry S – 3 fours, 3 wickets, 1 stumping, 3 run outs
  • Harry MS – 2 fours, 2 wickets, 1 catch, 1 run out
  • Rebecca – 1 four, 1 catch
  • Lucy – 1 run out
  • Ismail – 1 four
  • James – 3 fours, 3 wickets, 2 catches

Team B

  • Tom (c) – 3 fours, 1 six, 1 wicket, 1 stumping, 2 catches, 1 run out
  • Mobeen – 3 wickets, 1 run out
  • Adam – 1 four, 1 wicket, 1 catch
  • Saif – great fielding!
  • Callum – 5 fours, 5 sixes, 1 catch
  • Ben – 2 fours, 3 wickets, 1 run out
  • Olivia – 1 four
  • Charlie – 1 catch

A photo of most of the squad is below. I’m now off to apply some Aftersun…

Some of the smiling squad!

Summer Smash Cricket

Congratulations to our Year 3&4 cricket team who today finished 3rd in the Bronte School Games Summer Smash tournament.

With 6 teams competing, our ‘Silsden Smashers’ got off to a rocky start against tough opposition (inc. the eventual winners). But they bounced back superbly in the later games to end with a record of Won 3 and Lost 2.

Proud to be representing Silsden were: Isabel, Archie, Oliver, Connor, Alex, Alfie, Finley, Jack, Thomas and Leah.

Ready for the next delivery!

West Yorkshire Cricket Finals

Drax Cup – West Yorkshire finals

Today, our Year 3/4 cricket team participated in the West Yorkshire finals of the Drax cup.

We played 4 games in the group stages. We won our first game due to a tremendous batting performance and some wonderful catches in the field. The second game was narrowly lost. Our third match was tied on runs and wickets so went to a bowl-off. We lost the bowl off in sudden-death – how unlucky. However, we quickly got over this agonizing defeat to win our final match – again thanks to a strong fielding performance and a superb batting performance by our final pair of James and Huey.

We finished 2nd out of 3 teams in our group (just the bowl-off away from qualifying for the semi finals and a possible chance to play at Headingley).

What a season it has been for these players. Each and everyone of our players have improved their cricketing ability greatly in recent months. We have a very strong squad and the future for cricket at Hothfield looks very bright indeed.

Also, the sportsmanship and mutual respect shown by all three teams in our group was an absolute joy to behold. It is this that makes these completions worthwhile. Each team tried their very hardest to win, but were the first to congratulate the opposition if they were beaten.

Mr. Bolland is a very proud Hothfielder this evening.

Well done Natalia, Grace, Archie, Rio, Jack, Evan, Huey, James, Owen and Lennon.

Bradford u11 cricket finals

On Monday our Year 5/6 cricket team played at Bradford and Bingle CC in the Bradford schools’ finals. We won 1 of our 4 group games and finished 8th overall.

We played well but faced some very good teams. Whilst our bowling and fielding was up to its usual best, we perhaps let ourselves down with batting – losing some cheap wickets – especially to run outs.

A good season overall and plenty to build on for next year.

Well done Ethan, Finlay, Lola, Josh E, Josh L, Joe, Lewis, George, Danyal and James.

Drax Cup cricket at Oakworth CC

On Wednesday our year 3 and 4 cricket team played in the Drax cup at Oakworth CC. We played 5 matches; winning 4 and losing 1. We won the tournament overall on runs difference by just 3 runs!

Well done Huey, James I, Natalia, Grace, Owen, Sam, Archie, Joel, Harry and Lennon.

Y4 Cricket at Sutton CC

The year 4 cricket team took part in a South Craven cluster competition today at Sutton CC. We won 2 of our 4 matches.

Our fielding was excellent all afternoon, as was our bowling. We got the hang of running for quick singles as the games progressed, so our run tallies increased.

Well done to Gracie, Holly, Jorja, Ethan, Finlay, Rory, Oliver, Danyal, Noel and Leo.

Learning to bowl accurately.

Year 6 Cricket at Keighley CC

On Wednesday afternoon, 16 cricketers from year 6 ventured to Keighley.

Hothfield Whites narrowly lost their 3 games against some good teams.

Hothfield Reds won their 3 games and progressed to the final. Unfortunately they lost in the final but they have progressed to the Bradford schools’ finals in June.
