Year 6 Football Champions.

Our girls football team took part in a competition at South Craven school on Wednesday. After a defeat in the opening match to eventual runners up, Kildwick, our team won 4 consecutive matches to take the title.

6-0 and 4-0 victories in the group stages were followed by a 2-1 semi final victory before triumphing by a goal to nil in the final.

Well done Hothfielders!

Year 5 and 6 Football

On Wednesday evening we took part in the Oakbank football competition for year 5 and 6 boys football teams.

Muddy conditions didn’t deter us from playing some fluid passing football. We lost the first two matches by narrow score lines. Our attacking play improved significantly in our final three matches causing us to run out as winners by a large margin in all of the games.

South Craven Cup

Glorious sunshine and glorious football. The annual South Craven Cup at Steeton Primary School didn’t disappoint.

Our Year 6 boys team drew both of their matches against Steeton and won both of their matches against Eastburn. Lewis G sealed a last gasp victory in our first game with a right footed finish into the bottom corner after a superb Zidane-esque pirouette set him clear. Joe A scored the pick of the bunch in our second win with a thunderous drive into the top corner from distance. Sam B made an exceptional diving save to preserve our clean sheet in the second draw v Steeton. Unfortunately, we finished 2nd on goal difference to Steeton.

Well done Joe A, Lewis G, Sam B, Josh E, Harvey D and Spencer B.

Our Year 6 girls team won all four of their games by scores of 3-2, 3-2, 4-1 and 5-1. The pick of our goals came in our first match against Steeton – Alana sweeping the ball home after an intricate passing move. Rachel S made some tremendous saves in her first ever appearance in goal. Marissa and Scarlet used their strength and skill to dominate the opposition defences and scored goal after goal with tidy finishes. Lola was a rock in defence and midfield – hardly letting a single ball get past her. She scored 4 penalties and a couple of shots from long range. Hothfield were deservedly crowned the champions.

Well done Lola C, Marissa L, Scarlet B, Rachel S and Alana M.

So four years of Hothfield football for these children has come to end, but what a four years it has been. I’m sure we will see your names in sporting lights in the future. Well done all!

Hothfield footballers march on!

It was a hugely successful night for the two Hothfield U11 teams at the Ilkley/Keighley area playoffs tonight.

Both teams played 4 matches – each winning 2 and drawing 2. That meant both teams won their groups and now progress to the Bradford area finals (in February).

The girls earned their victories 1-0 (Chloe H) and 4-0 (Chloe F hat-trick, Chloe H), with brilliant effort from all the team. Well done to Lola (c), Marissa, Scarlet, Grace, Lucie, Gracie, Holly, Chloe F and Chloe H.

The boys won both their key games 1-0 with solid defending and goals from Callum and Lewis. Well done to Sam, Josh E, Michael, Josh L, Harvey, Lewis, Joe, Spencer and Callum.

As a bonus, the players were presented with their medals by Matty Pearson who is a pro with Accrington Stanley (“who are they?”) and is an ex-Oakbank student. He’s the young and athletic looking one at the back of the 3rd photo below (a description which these days unfortunately rules out a couple of the other adults pictured…)
