U9 football champions

This evening Hothfield’s under 9s football team won the South Craven Cup in dramatic fashion.

In their group games Hothfield beat Lothersdale 4-0 (Lewis, Ethan and Callum x2). They beat Sutton 2-0 (Lewis x2). In their final group match they defeated Cononley 3-0 (Lola and Callum x2).

In the final Hothfield met Kildwick. After 10 minutes of football the score remained 0-0. No goals were scored in the 5 minutes of extra time either. So it went to penalties. Lewis, Callum and Joe scored their penalties. Sam pulled off two wonderful saves. It was left to Harvey to score the winning penalty and he calmly placed it into the top corner.

Sam made some cracking saves during the final and his kicking started many Hothfield attacks.

Annabelle, Josh and Joe were tough tackling defenders.

Ethan, Callum, Lewis and Lola ran their socks off in the midfield and displayed lots of accurate passes and crosses.

Our forwards, Harvey and James, caused lots of problems for the opposition defences.

Well done Hothfield!

Football tournaments at Marley

This week Hothfield have been competing in some football tournaments at Marley pitches in Keighley.

On Monday night the year 3 and 4 boys team performed exceptionally, winning 2 and drawing 3 of their games. Lewis scored 3 goals, Joe got 1. Sam performed heroically in goal. Callum, Matthew and Dominic worked tirelessly for the team. Ben was very calm and assured in defence. Despite not conceding a goal in any of the games we finished 2nd in the group so didnt qualify for the semi finals.

On Tuesday it was the year 5 and 6 boys’ turn. Again we played well, winning 1, drawing 1 and narrowly losing 3. Greg scored 3 goals. Jack made some magnificent saves. Connor, Toby, Andrew, Harry C and Harry S all performed confidently and showed plenty of footballing skill and ability.

Last night it was the year 5 and 6 girls’ team of Abigail, Katie, Bethan, Maire, Niamh and Khadija. We drew 1 game and lost 4. Our performances got better with each gamr as the girls gained more confidence. They reflected on their performances and learnt from mistakes to allow themselves to be play better.

Well done Hothfield’s footballers.

Under 9s football at Oakbank

Last night our year 3 and 4 footballers played a tournament at Oakbank school.

For some of our players, it was there first ever proper game of football. This didnt phase them though.

We won 2 games (by 2-1 and 3-2 scorelines), narrowly lost 2 games and had a bit of a blip against the eventual winners.

Our players should certainly feel proud of themselves. Kevin scored 5 goals, Matthew scored 2. Joe, Lola and Annabelle were brave and strong in defence. Tayyab made some great saves in goal. Rihanna and Laila passed the ball excellently.

Well done Hothfielders!

Girls’ football and netball at Steeton.

The teams played netball and football matches against each other.

The Hoppers gained 19 points and the Hyenas 15 points.

It was fantastic to see the players try their absolute best in all of their games.

Below are some pictures of our teams playing football against each other.

You can tell they all enjoyed themselves because they never stopped smiling.

This evening some year 5 pupils took part in the South Craven Cup at Steeton Primary school.
They were competing against older pupils from Steeton and Eastburn.

Our boys team won their competition by winning 3 matches and drawing 1.

Our fledgling girls team showed lots of promise and some good skills. They lost 3 and drew 1, but they improved with every game. I hope you keep playing for us next year girls.

Well done all of you! You represented Hothfield extremely well with your behaviour, sportsmanship and performances.
