Bradford Academy Digital Leader visit

bradford academyA few week ago I was pleased to visit Bradford Academy School and chat with Tim Astin and his Digital Leaders. The school opened in 2007 and now offers provision from ages 3 to 18. The school joined the Bradford Digital Leader Academy programme in November this year and this was my chance to have a closer look at the school and see how they were developing DL provision at the school.

The Digital Leaders are Marshall, Anaya, Caragher, Ayaan, Nicole and Jaya. The children have already supported a parent’s evening and talked to parents about several (e)Safeguarding issues. The parents were very impressed and many of the discussions were about Online Bullying and what to do if this happened to their children. The result of the discussions with parents has led them to plan to deliver some presentations to support Safer Internet Day in February.

There is another parent’s evening planned for the next term and the children are discussing with Tim how they can support this event effectively.

The children are developing their technical capability and manage the laptops across the school ensuring they are charged, available to classes at appropriate times and are collected back in at the end of the day enabling laptops to be used much more effectively than previously.

We discussed the second training session at the Innovation Centre and they were excited about the possibility of creating some 3D printable Digital Leader badges.

The children are just starting to use Edmodo regularly and I look forward to issuing badges and certificates as they achieve the various Digital Leader badges available to them.
