A food chain is a linear sequence of links in a food web starting from a trophic species that eats no other species in the web and ends at a trophic species that is eaten by no other species in the web. I got this of http://www.wikiawnsers.org

a food chain is like for example a girraffe would eat some thing and they eat something and then they eat some thing and it goes on like that. Or like i am going to do you could do it like this.

my animal is a girraffe. A girraffes food chain is a plant.

  3. anna says:

A food chain is a kind of list of animals that shows how everything is connected in the circle of life, for instance,

seaweed > fish > seal > POLAR BEAR

  4. Jacob says:

The food chain of a Rabbit is

vegetables, rabbit, fox, bird of prey.

  5. ashwaan says:

Food chain can be described as something that feeds on something which then feed on something else. For example a polar bear feeds on seals. The seal in turn feeds on fish. The fish then feeds on a shrimp or planktons and in turn those feed on algae. Ashwaan

  6. Eleanor says:

One animal eats another animal and maybe that animal eats another animal or a plant.
For example, a polar bear eats seals, seals eat fish, fish eat smaller fish, smaller fish eat plancton.
If there was no food chain animals wouldn’t survive.

  7. George says:

The food chain is when an animal eats another animal.

eg1 bird eats the spider the spider eats the fly.

eg2 cat eats herring the herring eats the shrimp the shrimp eats the plankton.

  8. Isabella says:

A food chain always starts with a plant.
    (All plants are producers)
A food chain ends with a predator.
(the predator is at the top of the food chain)

A food chain shows how each living thing gets it’s food.
It shows who is eating who.
The arrow means “is eaten by”

    Grass–>grasshopper–>toad–>snake–>hawk

  11. Holly says:

A food chain is a cycle of life and survival. For example:-

Grass > zebra > lion > vulture (the vulture eats the lion when it has died).

    • Mr Burns says:

Thanks Holly. I like the last part of your food chain. I hadn’t really thought about what happens to the dead animals.

  12. Daisy says:

A food chain is something that is all to do with life. It allways starts off with the sun,the ENERGY comes from it. Then there is a plant that uses the suns ENERGY to make their food, this is photosynthesis. After, there is herbivores who eat plants. Next in the chain there is carnivores who eat the herbivores to get their ENERGY.Some carnivores eat other carnivores which makes the chain longer.Omnivores eat animals also plants. And finaly scavengers come at the end of the chain, they eat dead animals and plants.

The balance of nature makes sure everything gets food to survive but if the chain is broken there will be no more food no more animals.

    sun->plant->caterpillar->bird->fox->maggots.

  13. Amber says:

MY food chane is a sea food food chane.

A fish eats plankton,Jelly fish eats the fish, Turtle eats the jelly fish, Shark eats the turtle and when the shark dyes bakteria eats the shark witch creates nutriants for the plankton.

  14. Rhys says:

a food chain is where you have an animal and that animal eats another animal and that animal that has been eaten eats another animal before it.

    grass – ladybird – meerkat

  15. Eleanor T says:

food chains always start with a plant eg

Grass, Grass hopper, toad, snake, buzzard.

I found this great link featuring STEVE BACKSHALL from Deadly 60 that tells you all about food chains!

Sharks play a very important role in the oceans in a way that an average fish does not. Sharks are at the top of the food chain in virtually every part of every ocean. In that role, they keep populations of other fish healthy and in proper proportion for their ecosystem. How do sharks keep the oceans healthy?

Sharks keep food webs in balance

Sharks have evolved in a tight inter-dependency with their ecosystem. They tend to eat very efficiently, going after the old, sick, or slower fish in a population that they prey upon, keeping that population healthier. Sharks groom many populations of marine life to the right size so that those prey species don’t cause harm to the ecosystem by becoming too populous.
