Acting Headteacher Blog Y6 Science + News

on October 7, 2016

Hello – this week I offer a window in to the classroom. Actually it’s 4 windows of  semi-scripted education and entertainment involving light, science and modern technology. I take no credit for the hard work of the Year  6 children and team but great delight in sharing our first video offerings via the blog.

If it all comes together and you can actually watch the videos (I’m having some difficulty!) then it will be a marvel of modern technology allowing some of the children to share some of what they have done and give a real audience for their work.

We will be offering parental workshops around various e-safety and awareness issues over the course of the year to run alongside work done in school. These will be run by our local Cyber PCSO in school who will be working with us all year around anything and everything to do with keeping safe online for children, staff and parents. After Christmas, January 6th in fact, will be a session for parents after school about online gaming and what the games machines and mobile devices of today allow children to do and how to make sure they are using them safely. Perfect for trying to work out settings on those Christmas presents!

In other news –  as the village prepares to say goodbye and good luck to Reverend Nigel we did the same as a school at the Harvest Celebration. The role of Vicar, and of Reverend Nigel within that role,  as Chaplain in school has been a much valued one for both children and staff and we are sad to see him go, while wishing him all the best for his future role in a larger group of schools in Leeds. They are very lucky to have him and we will miss him around as our link to church and in and around the classrooms of our school. We await to see who will replace him in the fullness of time and hope to still have strong links to the church and make use of St Mary’s for our celebrations of Christian Festivals throughout the year.

Parent’s evenings are next week on Monday and Tuesday – there will be refreshments and an opportunity to feed back to the school ideas on what you, as a parent, value about our school. Also there will be Life Savers from the Credit Union – we are in the privileged position of being able to offer a real savings opportunity within school which will impact on children’s attitudes and values around money. We would love more of you to take advantage of the Saving Scheme so come and talk to the Credit Union and find out what it’s all about.

Also in the hall will be the school nurse who can talk generally or privately about any issues that you may have. This information has been updated on the school calendar which is on the front page of the school website.

We look forward to welcoming you in to school and for the chance for you to meet your child’s new class teacher and find out how they have settled at the beginning of the new year.
