Year 6 Life Education Centre

Last week we had a visit from the Life Education Centre.

On 30th March we went to the Life Caravan. The Life Caravan has no furniture except there is a TV and a couple of stools. It has black carpet and walls.  It has a starlight roof. We talked about alcohol and drugs and how they can be bad to our bodies and how strong the drugs are. People told us the effects of the drugs and that our livers have not grown enough to clean the poison from our bodies. We learn about legal and illegal drugs. Legal drugs are; caffeine, alcohol and nicotine.  We had lots of fun. Oliver, Harry, Charlie and Thomas

In the life caravan I learnt how bad smoking is and how bad it is to drink beer if you are a child and that you can get brain damage if you drink too much and it can cause your liver to collapse. Finley

This week we went to the life caravan, we learnt about drugs and how not to use them. As well as, we learnt about a group of boys who were getting picked on; the bullies were called Ben and Jasper.

Also we did the angle for the perfect dab in maths. It was epic! We drew around someone doing a dab then we measured the angles with a protractor. The perfect dabbing angle is between 119 degrees and 169 degreesDeclan and Lewis

Dear readers, this week in year 6 we went to the Life Caravan and talked about drugs such as caffeine, alcohol and medicines. We learnt about how drugs can effect your body and that they can all affect you in some way, whether it is in a good way or a bad way. It is important that if you don’t need to take medicines that you don’t take them.  Drugs can either poison you or give you a nasty disease. Alfie, William, Joash, Reuben and Josh

In maths we learn about the best dabbing angle.  We all split up into groups and set off. We had to choose someone to draw around the dab. Our group angle was 110 degrees. Most groups got different angles. We also had to make a poster for our dab. Amber

In year 6 we have been doing lots of things and we are going to tell you about them.  In the life caravan we covered legal and illegal drugs and how they effect our bodies.  We covered the three legal drugs (caffeine, alcohol and tobacco) and we covered the many illegal drugs (cocaine, heroine, weed etc…) we also covered smoking and recapped on the fact that 3% of 11-15 year olds smoke which surprised us – as it did last year. We also relearnt what kind of drug is in tobacco, which is nicotine. Knowing the facts about these things help us to make the right choices when we are older. We watched a video about a boy called Jack. Jack invited 5 friends around to his house but there was nothing to do because Jack’s computer had broke, so Ben – his friend started to look around the house for something to do. Then, Ben found some vodka and poured a glass for Jack.  One of Jack’s other friends wanted to drink too, so he said “Let’s get drunk”. Next, one of Jack’s friends told them that Jack didn’t want to drink and so Ben laughed at him.  Then Jack got the courage to tell them that he didn’t want to drink the alcohol and two more of Jack’s friends joined in and overpowered Ben and his friend, so Ben and his friend left the house.  After that, the 4 boys watched a film and put the alcohol away.

On the 4th April we will be having a Narnia day and we will be dressing up as a Narnia character or a World War 11 Evacuee. All we know so far is that we will be doing some awesome activities and that we have been collecting toilet roll tubes and kitchen roll tubes all week.  We know nothing else of the day and we hope it will be awesome!

In maths we got in two groups to find the perfect angle for a dab. We drew around people doing the dabs and use a protractor to measure the angles their arms made. Then we went around the drawing in pen so it looked more defined. After that, we stuck the pictures of the perfect dabs on the wall. The results were different and it was a cool maths lesson and everyone enjoyed it.

Chloe, Lily, Charlotte, Coleen and Susan.

Last week we went to the life caravan Sally (the life caravan teacher) talked to us about illegal and legal drugs, she also talked to us about different types of alcohol. These are some of the things she said: 3% of young children smoke, when you get drunk it poisons your liver because alcohol is a poison. Lily and Annie
