Reception Lockdown Boogie! *Class of 2020*

Continuing to spread the positivity, Reception Class have created a reply video to our staff ‘We’re all in this together’ post.

I am immensely proud of all the effort the children and adults have made putting this video together and would love to share this with all of our St Paul’s family!

We miss you all so much and hope to see you all soon!

Stay safe, stay home and stay positive!

Miss Galtress & all the staff and volunteers at St Paul’s CE Primary School 🙂

Chick Update!

Reception class have had a very exciting fortnight watching our chicken eggs hatch and grow.

This week we have been learning to care for our chicks. We have been changing their bedding twice a day, making sure they have fresh newspaper and sawdust. We have also been giving them fresh food and water in the morning and before we leave for hometime.

We also got to have a cheeky cuddle before they were returned to the farm 🙂

EGGciting visitors in Reception Class!

To begin our topic of Spring and Growth, Reception class received 10 chicken eggs from the LivingEggs farm. The children have been looking after these eggs and kept a close eye on them in the incubator to see what happens next …

Our first chicks began to peck and pip through their shells on Wednesday and by Friday our eggs had hatched in healthy chicks!

Reception class are lucky enough to care for our chicks for another week … keep an eye on the school blog for more updates 🙂

Blending for Reading!

Every week Reception Class learn a new set of phonemes (sounds) to help them read and write new words. This video shows how we teach the children to read new words using the sounds of the week.

  1. touch the letter with your finger
  2. say the sound the letter makes
  3. blend the sounds together to read the word

Please continue to help your child practise the words that are being sent home each week. Thank you for your continued support!

Reception Nativity

On Thursday, the whole school performed in our christmas carol concert. Reception loved dressing up and performing the nativity story.

Thank you to all the parents who came to watch. We hope you loved it as much as the children did.

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!

This half term in Reception …

Reception have been very busy this half term. Watch our video to see what we have been getting up to!

Reception visitors … part 1!

We are very lucky to have lots of different people who us help in our community. To introduce our new topic ‘People Who Help Us’ a special visitor is coming to see Reception class each week.

Last week, Lynn and John came to see us to talk about the Army! We got the chance to ask lots of questions about their jobs and how they help different people. Lynn and John brought us different equipment and uniform that we could look at and try on. They also brought some survival packs for us to taste. They even set up a mini assault course for us in our outdoor area. It was a very fun and interesting afternoon and it helped us learn lots of information about the Army.
