# Year 4 Invertebrate Hunt

Our Science topic being Living things and their habitats, we learnt to group vertebrates and invertebrates using classification keys, Venn and Caroll diagrams. We then went on an invertebrate hunt behind the church before examining our findings in the classroom and drawing these tiny creatures in detail. Here are some photos of our very successful hunt.

Well done, Year 4!

# Our special visitor.

This morning in year 3 we had a new member in our class.

Our Elf came with a letter explaining why it had come and asking us to name it. We had to do some writing to persuade Miss Briggs why she should choose our name.

We all did fantastic writing but Alicias name won, it was Lucky and we decided the Elf would be a girl.

Lucky came with our advent calendar and she is watching for people being kind!

# Year 6 Function Machines

In problem solving lessons, Year 6 have been learning about function machines and pretending to be human machines. The children were given a number then they had to use the function to change the number and give an output. In groups the children then created a machine for the other children, they had to guess the function using trial and error and patterns.

Can you solve this function machine by giving another example?

# Year 6 Remembrance Day

Last week, Year 6 took some time to remember the wars, the soldiers – past and present, their families and their own lives.

They made some poppy crosses and some beautiful artwork which contained their own poems. Here are some examples of their exceptional work (click to enlarge).

The week was finished with the whole school 2 minute silence.

# Year 6 Whitby Trip 6.10.2017

Last Friday, Year 6 went to Whitby as part of their topic and English work.

We had an amazing day, the sun shone all day, we paddled in the sea, had an ice-cream, looked in the shops and went up and down the 199 steps.

The children were a credit to the school and we had a lovely day spotting the sights in Whitby and the book Room 13.

Here are some photos and a video of our day.

Well done Year 6!

Miss C 🙂

# Year 5 Brazil Carnival Day 2017

Yesterday the children in Year 5 took part in a Brazil day and found out all about Brazilian carnivals. They made a flag and a mask and then tried some different fruits in the afternoon. They all made their own tropical punch from orange, pineapple and apple juice.

The sun came out too just like in Brazil 🙂

Here are some photos of our day.

What did you learn about carnivals Year 5?

# Digital Leaders Celebration Event 2017

Today, the Year 5 digital leaders went to the innovation centre, in Bradford, for a celebration event. They shared a presentation about their achievements in school over the year, which can be seen below. They then received a wristband and certificate to say they had successfully completed the training to be a digital leader.

The children also had the opportunity to speak to some visitors about some new technology and games and review them. They received a free mug for this too.

Well done to all the children involved. You have acted as role models to the rest of the school and your confidence has grown immensely. I am very proud of your maturity throughout the training but especially today.

A very proud Miss Charles 🙂

# Year 5 Fire Safety Talk 26.6.2017

Today the fire service visited Year 5 and talked about fire safety. They explained what fires need to ignite and how to safely evacuate a building – especially their home. In addition, they talked about car safety and the importance of seatbelts.

What new facts did you learn Year 5?

# Year 5 Music Workshop Day 2

Here are the photographs of the second day of the music workshop.

Thank you to all the parents who came and enjoyed the performance. For those parents who could not attend, here are some sections of the show for you to watch.

Finally, we would like to say a HUGE thank you to Miss Boswell and Mr Nash at BBEC for running the workshop but also surprising us with the gift of keeping all the instruments 🙂

We are so grateful and we now have a range of instruments in our school such as bomwhackers, tambourines, 5 ukuleles, maracas and many more!

# Manchester attack prayers and thoughts

This morning, in class prayers, Year 5 were talking about the tragic events in Manchester and how we can deal with these kinds of rare but awful events.

We watched the advice video on BBC Newsround  and then wrote some really thoughtful prayers. Here is the website if anyone would like some advice. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/13865002

Here are our prayers and thoughts.

Everyone at St.Paul’s CE Primary sends all their prayers and love to anyone affected by the events in Manchester this week.
