Year 5 Cartwright Hall and Lister Park

Today Year 5 went on a trip to Cartwright Hall and Lister Park, in Bradford. In the morning we had a workshop where we learnt about noticing things around us, sketching and printing. The children looked at the exhibitions and sketched different parts of artwork of their choice.  Their artwork was super and they tried so hard to create original prints.

After, we had a picnic outside in the sunshine. We then went for a walk around the lake and a play in the park.

Well done Year 5, you were very good at art and extremely well behaved and polite.

Well done!

Year 5 Maths

This week in maths we have been learning how to find the perimeter of a shape using different units of measure. Today we found out the perimeter of the Wembley pitch by doubling each side and adding together the result. We found out that it is 348m.

We then investigated other real-life perimeters in the classroom.

Remembering the 56

Today the children in school took part in a 2 minutes silence to remember the 56 people who lost their lives 32 years ago in the tragic fire at Bradford City stadium.

Year 2 also talked about what happened and looked at some of the names and ages.

Thank you to all at St.Pauls for being respectful.

Year 5 Trip to Tatton Park 5.4.2017

Today Year 5 went on a trip to Tatton Park / Tatton Dale Home Farm. They were treat like evacuees from start to finish! They all had the chance to experience what life was like for an evacuee on the farm. They learnt about the farm animals and how to milk a cow. They looked inside the house they may have lived in as well as looking at the stables and the equipment used in the land army. They were all  very surprised when the air-raid siren went off at the end of the day too!

The staff there commented on how wonderful the children behaved and that they were a credit to the school. Well done Year 5! Hope you had a great day and learnt lots. I certainly did.

Tell me your favourite part or something you learnt.

S.Patrick’s Day Year 5

Today we learnt about St. Patrick’s Day and why people celebrate. We talked about the patron saints of each country in the UK and why British people celebrate.

Here are some facts we learnt.

  • St.Patrick became a Christian priest. He returned to Ireland and converted many Irish people to Christianity
  • People wear green on Saint Patrick’s Day.  Some people wear costumes or funny hats
  • Some people go to church in t
he morning. In Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day has primarily been a religious festival. There are parades all around the world.

We then made a shamrock sun catcher to put up at the window. The shamrock is a St. Patrick’s Day symbol because St. Patrick used the shamrock to teach the concept of the Holy Trinity. The three leaves represent the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Wishing a very happy St.Patrick’s day to everyone.

Chicks visit Year 5

Thank you to Mrs Derbyshire and Reception class for lending us the chicks this morning. They were super cute!

Year 5 Maths

This week we have been learning about fractions. We found patterns and equivalences and also worked out how to change an improper farction to a mixed number. Well done.

Year 5 World Book Day 2017

We started the morning by everyone in class explaining who they were dressed as and what their favourite book is.

Here are some examples.

Miss Charles: “Guess how much I love you is my favourite children’s book because it has really lovely illustrations and the words have a really emotional meaning.”

Rajveer: “Mine is Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban because is it really interesting and descriptive!”

Bailey: “I like the World War 2 non-fiction book because it has interesting facts and photographs.”

Renae: “Mine is Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban because you find out that it is not Sirius Black that told Voldermort where his parents were!”

Kiedis: “Mine is Minecraft Annual 2016 because I really like Minecraft.”

We then played a game of guess the character, made a bookmark and made our own book.

Great morning Year 5, well done everyone.
