Year 1’s Staying Safe

Here is Year 1’s Staying Safe video. I have to say I love your dance moves and I am very proud of how grown up you’re all being by looking after yourselves and families.

We are missing you a lot and hope to see you all soon when it is safe.

Stay home, stay safe and keep washing your hands.

God Bless

Year 1 – Reading Raffle

In year one we celebrate reading at home with a raffle.
Each time your child reads at home and has their reading record signed they receive a raffle ticket.

At the end of the week 3 children are picked and have the chance to go in the star box. All tickets remain in the jar and at the end of the half term 1 ticket is chosen to win a book.

We are very excited to find out who our first winners will be.

Here are some helpful tips to support reading at home:
Let your child select the book. (it doesn’t always have to be their reading book
Discuss the cover, the author/ illustrator.
Look through the book together and talk about the pictures
Take turns to read.

Thank you for your continued support,
Miss Briggs

Year 1 and 2 Visitor.

Year 1 Summer 1

Welcome back to Summer 1 in Year 1.

This half term in Year 1 our topic is ‘The Enchanted Woodland’ and we will be learning:

Phonics – revising our new Phase 5 sounds and practising for the Phonics Screening check by reading real and alien words. We will also be learning to add the prefix ‘un’. We will be adding suffixes by using the spelling rule to add -s, -es to words and using –ing, –ed, –er and –est where no change is needed in the spelling of root words [for example, helping, helped, helper, eating, quicker, quickest].

English – Non-fiction – fact files and instructions

Maths – Multiplication and division. We will count in multiples of twos, fives and tens. We will be learning to solve one step problems involving multiplication and division, by calculating the answer using concrete objects, pictorial representations and arrays with the support of the teacher.

Science – Plants and trees. We will be learning to identify and name a variety of common plants and deciduous and evergreen trees. We will discuss what plants and trees need to grow and describe the structure of common flowering plants, including trees.

DT/Art – Observational drawing using different media and materials.

RE – Judaism – Who is Jewish and what do they believe?

PE – (every Friday afternoon)

Dates for diary – Thursday 2nd May is our trip to Ledston Estate to support our topic in Science.

Another busy half term of new learning to look forward to. Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Darbyshire, Mrs Browne and Mrs Safianyk.

Amazing Writing from Year 1!

Church Visit

Year 1 went to church on Monday to locate and talk about the features and special objects that are part of a Christian church.

Can you spot the lectern, the font, the pulpit, the altar, the pews, the organ, the cross, the stained glass windows, the candle and the flowers? If you can’t, ask Year 1 children!
